oooOOOooo

So here we are once again back to our old stamping ground now renamed The Garden Restaurant. At our first meeting there on 11th May I was pleased to notice that the armchairs and settees had been replaced with tables and chairs, much better suited to our needs. At this meeting we were given a very informative talk by Mel Reid on his life in the Royal Air Force. I got the impression that he had enjoyed his time in the forces, but for the life of me I cannot imagine how anyone could enjoy jumping out of aircraft. The following week a quiz was set by Jan Smith, the theme being food. Due to expensive problems with my car which I had to collect from Velez Malaga, I missed most of the meeting but comments received suggested that the quiz was popular, more so than my recent attempt at quiz setting. Tuesday May 25th was our barbecue down near the lake. It was very well attended by the majority of our membership along with several guests. An ample supply of food was excellently cooked on the barbecue by Martyn and Colin, supplemented with salads, crisps, rolls, dressings etc; made and supplied by various members. Needless to say all was accompanied by both soft and alcoholic beverages. Whilst Martyn and Colin took a well earned break to have their refreshments our Secretary Margaret took over control of the barbecue, thus breaking the tradition of “men only” barbecue chefs!  With our typical Spanish warm weather and the presence of shade, it turned out to be the perfect day. Many thanks are due to all of those involved in a great day out; hopefully we will be able to manage another similar event later in the year.

Thanks to Brian and Jacque for the photographs, two of which are shown below

Mel is seeking volunteers to assist

As we are all now aware, on Monday 28th June Jan Smith was suddenly taken ill. She is now slowly recovering following her operation at Carlos Haya hospital in Malaga. We wish her a speedy recovery and offer our best wishes to Colin, Olive and all their family. At the time of printing this visiting is restricted to the family, but frequent updates are being sent via email from Margaret.

19/8.2010 Jan is now at home, and well on the way to full health.
